A true great, overcame more in his life than any of us will ever have to face. We'll miss you, Eduardo Gori Guerrero Llanes, the Smackdown Heavyweight Champion.

Eddie Guerrero was found dead in the bathroom in his hotel room with a toothbrush in his mouth and thus he apparently died while brushing his teeth earlier in the morning. The belief among WWE personnel is that Guerrero died of heart failure. Guerrero's body was found and removed from the room by local paramedics.
Afterwards, Chris Benoit, Rey Mysterio, Dean Malenko and Chavo Guerrero visited the hotel room to say their goodbyes and reflect. WWE wrestlers and employees were visibly shaken and emotional while leaving the Marriot hotel to go the Target Center, the site of tonight's Raw/Smackdown taping. Tonight's Smackdown taping will need to be dramatically revised.

It's a fitting tribute to a man who fought so hard for what he wanted. He'll certainly be missed.

Y'know, usually, I deliberately abstain from making comments and putting my "RIP" in dedication threads when we hear about another wrestler passing away. Not down to any religious reasons, and not because I necessarilly don't want to show my respects to another man/woman who's passed on.
I mean, I just watched one of the matches Eddy'll no doubt be most remembered for, his Halloween Havoc '97 match with Rey Misterio Jr, and it still screams "great match" even though I've seen it so many times I could recall it for you almost move for move off the top of my head. But that's not remotely important when we're talking about the guy having died, because tonight all the match was shouting at me was "Oh My God, Eddy Guerrero's dead".
And so here I am now sitting at the computer in my house, there we were at training starting a match when Dirk passed on the news to the rest of us, and we're just fans. Eddy Guerrero was, undeniably, one of the greatest talents of his time (and a time filled with great talents), but we never, yknow, actually knew the guy.
Nevermind the Chris Benoit's, and Dean Malenko's who've travelled around the world with him for well in excess of 10 years, there's a woman who's just lost her husband, two kids who've just lost their father... and then you feel like a bastard for saying it but you know you feel it; there'll've been thousands of families across the world who've suffered similar losses today so why is this guy, who we didn't know, any different.
Because we were talking about wrestlers' deaths last night?
Because we've seen his life for the past three years as seemingly there to tell us a wonderful story about overcoming addiction and tremendous odds, fighting his way back from the bottom of the barrel to the height of his profession, only to see it today changed and to forever exist as a life cut short in the midst of seemingly-perfect health and the highest quality of life he's ever experienced?
Or, maybe because all bar two of the lads in our hotel rooms (and it'd be a similar ratio if we went around everyone at training) admitted they'll go on the steroids that've more than likely been what's killed Eddy, without a second thought for our long-term health (I say as a smoker...)?
Whatever the reason behind it I know I'm not the only person genuinely emotionally-affected by the death of Eddy Guerrero today. And maybe the fact that so many of us who didn't know the man can be affected by his death is the truest sign of greatness and one of the biggest achievements in life.
RIP

Last year when WWE did the Wrestlemania Revenge tour show in Sheffield I actually got the chance to meet and talk with Eddie at a WWE hospitality meet and great session, he was such a nice guy, shy, but still had a lot of time for the fans who had paid quite a bit of money and queued for quite some time just have the honour of shaking the man's hand and getting an autograph. And yes it was an honour, I was nervous just talking to him, I told him how I'd followed his career all the way from ECW, to WCW to WWF/WWE and that he was a true talent and inspiration and that it was fantastic to see him with the WWE title finally! The news today hit me hard, the industry has lost a legend, a true legend and of course as I said an inspiration to so many people. Iam SO glad that Eddie finally got the chance to be one of the 'top guys' over the past year because Christ knows he deserved it! The memories will never fade, adiĆ³s, rest in peace.
