This shouldn't be a big deal but here goes anyway.
I'm doing an HND course in Media Production at the University of Salford and as part of the Research part I have to come up with an idea for an 8 minute long video. Now only a few of the ideas will actually be commissioned by the Uni to be made in the second semester so mine probably won't, but if it does and it turns out to be impractical or undoable or something then it's not good news.
Anyway, I was thinking about proposing a short documentary on FSW, or British wrestling in general. My tutor is really interested in the idea so I think I've sold her on it after giving her a quick rundown on it but I need to convince you guys more importantly. All it will involve is coming to a training session with like 2 other people and some camera equipement and interviewing a few people either before or after training (obviously not during). Plus it might be a good idea to film some action of actual training. the questions will probably be about how you got into wrestling, how long you've been training etc etc. My tutor was also keen on asking everyone the rules of wrestling then cutting between each answer so it's a different person saying each rule... anyway, I think I've covered everything.
Would anyone object if this happened in, say, Easter time? As i say it probably won't get commissioned but I just want to be sure it's cool if it does get made.

I considered doing this before, but it's a bit unwieldy. Dave's the guy to ask, because he can pass the message on to Alex, who owns the gym.
I don't understand what you're talking about, the rules of wrestling. Only rules I can think of is things like no low-blows. Ten count for being on the outside. Both shoulders pinned to the mat for three seconds is a pin. But they change from match to match and company to company.

Gorilla was often domineeringly-pedantic when it came to the rules of wrestling and the application of submission holds, is all... things like "Why is Owen hart applying an abdominal stretch to Scott Steiner? He doesn't have the size nor leverage to make this hold effective and he hasn't even hooked the hold in properly by hooking his leg behind Steiner's!"

And, yeah, I realise that quote there has nothing to do with the "rules" of wrestling, it's just one of the more obvious "Why the f**k are you saying that, man?" quotes I remember him saying. Gorilla would often be the guy to explain why things work in the context of wrestling rules. I think, and I'm looking to Si to confirm this for me, there was even a RIM thread a while ago titled "Ask Gorilla" were one poster would ask how this or that fitted into the logic of a match and into wrestling rules and why it's allowed to happen (like how does the other tag partner kicking the guy making a cover break up the count, etc) and another would assume the role of Gorilla Monsoon to explain so (any infringement on the cover is deemed to interfere with the cover and nullify it, teams were even allowed a set amount of "break ups" years ago I beleive).

To be honest, i quite like that about Monsoon, I didnt feel like he was showing up the wrestler themselves, but more tearing into their tactics, much like a football pundit using playback to point out that if the ball had been played up in this space here (imagine a frozen picture and the magic pen-thingy) then there would have been more space to score (poor example but you get the point) I think im going to put this into a new thread so we can talk about it further, and keep on topic here. But yeah ill tlak to alex about this. I helped a freind of mine do a similar thing at gpw a couple of years ago for her HND at Stockport College, it turned out ok i feel. But with your interest in wrestling (her interest was in me ) you could really do somethng with this. i'll also see about getting permission for you to film at a show, you'll probably get more interesting footage in that kinda of environment. PM me alex (foley mark is alex isnt it??) and we can try and sort something out for yah.

Good stuff. Yeah, this is Alex... Pownall = Dave?
Also, Big Sam, I wouldn't aim that high for an A-Level project, just do a music video or something. I love your avatar (I bet Dave doesn't).

I wouldn't advise a music video necessarily. They're not usually looked upon kindly by examiners. UNless, that is, Media has different standards to Film Studies.

1: I'm against this, for reasons I won't go into on the board, but similar to why I was aginst th bloke filming backstage on saturday. I'm probably too old-fashioned though, but I won't offer my services for interview for a second.
2: I hate Super Dragon AND the curb stomp
